Tulsa OK Schools
Tulsa Schools and Higher Education are part of what makes Tulsa, Oklahoma such a great place to live, especially for those in the education field or those with school age children. With three primary public school districts in Tulsa, Tulsa Public Schools is the largest school district in Oklahoma. Of course, Tulsa OK Schools include private schools that have religious affiliations, including Catholic, Jewish and Protestant schools.
When it comes to higher education, Tulsa OK Schools include 15 institutions including the University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University, founded by Oral Roberts, the town’s famous evangelist in 1963. Other institutions include community colleges and Rogers State University, which is Tulsa’s only public four-year university.
With over 90,000 students in Tulsa OK Public School District and thousands more in the college and university institutions, Tulsa, OK Schools focus on education as a primary occupation, in addition to medical occupational training and OSU, or Oklahoma State University has three campuses in the city.
The upper level undergraduate and graduate courses offered by OSU Center for Health Sciences, OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and OSU-Tulsa campus known as OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in conjunction with OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.
Oral Roberts University focuses on a charismatic Christian enrollment of over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The campus served as the broadcasting host of the weekly Oral Robert television program and it is a tourist and educational destination to see when you visit Tulsa.
Because of the large student body in Tulsa OK schools, Tulsa has a large library system, called the Tulsa City-County Library which contains over 1.7 million volumes in 25 separate library facilities. Besides this library system, Tulsa OK schools have access to the McFarlin Library at the University of Tulsa, which is a federal depository library holding more than three million items. Tulsa is the only Oklahoma city that has more than two federal depositories.
Because Tulsa OK schools play a large part in the family community that focuses on education, it not only includes a large student body but Tulsa is built on family values that include a good education and a continuing education for its children. With its central Midwest location and moderate climate, it makes Tulsa a well-rounded community with many events, both cultural and educational, for the population.
In an effort to continually improve the quality of education in the Tulsa OK schools, the school district has come up with innovative ways, like changing starting and dismissal times on secondary and high school students to save the school district more than $400,000 in transportation costs over the coming year. This money can go towards education funding instead.
Another focus of Tulsa OK schools this year is making meaningful change in the city’s most economically depressed areas through effective school leadership and initiatives that impact high poverty schools. It is this kind of caring that involves the community in constantly improving the quality of education in the Tulsa OK schools and gives their public school district the incentives to come up with higher quality educations than other districts their size.
