Tulsa Home Owners Top Volunteer List

More than 228,000 Tulsa home owners and residents alike assisted Tulsa OK to the 27th placement (out of 75 mid-sized cities throughout the U.S.) for the number of volunteer hours they gave to help local businesses and organizations last year.  Oklahoma City ranked seventh nationally out of 51 large cities used in the surveys collected by the U.S. Census Bureau.  Statistics were gained from both the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics between the years 2005 and 2008 and is released by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Calculations showed that 32 percent of Tulsa home owners and residents volunteered during this three year period with each volunteer averaging 38 hours of service annually, compared to the national average of 27 percent of mid-sized city residents giving 35 hours of their time each year.

The estimated economic impact that these 228,000+ volunteers in Tulsa gave was $541 million.  That's a huge impact!  One of the volunteer opportunities available to Tulsa home owners is the Rebuilding Together Tulsa organization which works to revitalize and preserve low income homes and communities throughout the area.  This allows Tulsa home's low income, aging and disabled population to remain in the security of their own homes.  Over the course of the last 12 years, Rebuilding Together Tulsa volunteers have helped make over 2,000 repairs for 466 Tulsa home owners!
