Brookside - THE Place To Be in Tulsa, OK!
Brookside in Tulsa, OK is surrounded by a peaceful suburban neighborhood, yet has become a part of town that offers some of the finest dining, nightlife, shopping and other exceptional services to be found for miles around. It has become a flourishing, well-known business district in Tulsa, Oklahoma that offers something for all ages. Within easy walking or biking distance to Henthorne Park, Woodward Park, Riverside Parks, and Zink Park, we are also in close proximity to the world famous Philbrook Museum and the Garden Center.
Brookside is between South 31st Street and 51st Street and between Riverside Drive and South Utica Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Brookside Farmers Market is at 41st & Peoria, and it is a popular Wednesday morning destination in season from April through October.
Of course, Brookside is known for its many fine events, festivals and annual car shows. Many of our benefit festivities offer fun for all ages and offer charitable assistance to area organizations. It’s this sense of community that is reflected from the beginnings of Brookside.
Today (June 4th, 2009), the traditional motorcycle parade benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, will travel from the Fairgrounds, 15th street to Peoria Avenue, to Brookside. The parade starts at 7 p.m., and you can enjoy food, drinks and live music. Plus, you don't have to own a motorcycle to enjoy this Brookside tradition! Starting tomorrow at 8 p.m. will be the Asylum Annual Car Show held by the Scikotics Car Club. Scions from around the nation meet in the middle of 33rd and 35th Street on Peoria Avenue for a weekend of cool cars and lots of fun.
In the early years, the area was part of the Creek Indian land and Tulsa is said to be named from the Creek language when it was call Tulsey Town. Early Brookside is believed to have derived its name from “Creek” so it was considered to be the village along the river from 32nd to 38th and over to Peoria. The boundaries changed many times to the main strips along Peoria from 31st to 51st and from the Arkansas River to Lewis Avenue, although it is concentrated on Peoria from 32nd to 41st streets.
During the 1940’s, Brookside became one of the best places to shop, and following World War II, it added more new businesses. In recent decades, the area has changed tenants and made improvements and expansions, but the original spirit of the early Brookside village is still present today.
The neighboring churches and schools have made it a center for the surrounding Tulsa, OK real estate residents and visitors to find fun, festivities, great food and great deals. The special year round events offer a variety of activities for families.
If it is nightlife you want, you must go to some of the nightclubs in Brookside, sit on the patio and sip a drink while the music plays or dance the night away in one of the nightclubs. Whether it is sushi, halibut tacos or Kobe beef, they are sure to serve it in the Brookside district. It’s like a taste of cultural New York in suburban Oklahoma!
