Oklahoma has a scholarship program through the state that makes it possible for students who want to go to college, but cannot afford it to do so. If their parent's income is under $50,000 per year, they can earn college tuition for free. Every school, including the high school has a counselor, who is highly qualified and a media specialist.
One of the programs designed to help communications between the teachers and parents is the Parent Portal. This is a way of keeping parents informed of their student's grades via the Internet. The Owasso school district begins their school year in mid-August and schools are out at the end of May. The proximity of Owasso to the Tulsa community has a good deal to do with people settling in this area. The small town atmosphere is what a lot people find when they and that is rare these days. This is where people want to raise their children and have them grow up - due to one very important aspect - the crime rate is not as high as in other large cities.
